We believe that safety is a way of life, and is everyone's responsibility at all times. Our philosophy is: "Work safe, live safe."

The very nature of mining carries some risks. Our responsibility as an employer is to provide a safe working environment. To this end, we:

• Provide employees with the necessary equipment and tools to conduct their jobs in a safe manner and enforce their use;
• Establish policies and procedures that reflect proven and leading practices to help us run our operations safely;
• Provide every employee with the training necessary to conduct their job safely and properly, including emergency response procedures;
• Conduct in-depth investigations into any accidents to determine how to avoid their recurrence
• Never compromise the safety of anyone for the sake of production.

Promoting a safety culture

We have a Board-endorsed Corporate Health & Safety Policy (PDF, 28K, opens in a new window) and have chosen to develop a Health & Safety Management System that complies with the requirements of OSHAS 18001. This initiative will be driven by directives that define minimum site health and safety standards and performance requirements. This approach will allow us to identify, evaluate and manage risks throughout the operation. 

A dedicated safety team at site carries out regular inspections and enforces the use of personal protective equipment at all times.

To evaluate the effectiveness of our systems, we monitor and audit our performance on an ongoing basis, and provide reports to the Board of Directors to ensure the appropriate level of oversight and governance.
