Fatal Accidents at Site

It is with regret that Katanga Mining advises that an employee, Mr. Mutshaila Nama, was fatally injured in an underground mining accident at 4.40pm on Friday 27th February 2009.

It is also with regret that the Company advises that an employee, Mr. Nseya Kalenga, was fatally injured in a separate underground mining accident at 3.00am on Sunday 01st March 2009.

The Company will offer assistance and support to both families and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

Extensive accident investigations, involving both our internal safety personnel and local government officials, are presently underway to understand every aspect of these incidents and to identify and implement measures to prevent any reoccurrence. While these investigations are carried out the decision has been made that it is safe to continue mining operations.
