Katanga Mining announces appointment of new COO

ZUG, SWITZERLAND, October 11, 2011 – Katanga Mining Limited (TSX: KAT) ("Katanga" or the "Company") today announced the promotion of Itamar Machado into the position of Chief Operating Officer of the Company.

Mr. Machado commenced employment with Katanga in January 2009 as Technical Services Manager. He was subsequently promoted to General Manager, Mining in July 2009. Mr. Machado has a degree in Mine Engineering from the School of Mines, Ouro Preto Federal University, MG, Brazil.
